About

New Dawn

New Dawn is not a company and not a studio. It is one developer who builds apps for people whose daily work involves keeping records — and who are tired of doing it in a notebook.

How it started

Every app here grew out of a real routine rather than a market analysis. Breeders keep mating dates and pedigrees on paper, smallholders count feed on a calculator, and families plan the week's meals in their heads. All of that is work a phone can do — and do better, because it never forgets and never miscounts.

Why the apps are free

Because a paid app in this niche simply would not be installed. People want to try it on their own animals first and see whether it fits their way of working. Development is funded by advertising built into the apps: it is not the most elegant model, but it is honest — you pay nothing and lose nothing if the app turns out not to suit you.

There are no subscriptions, no paid features and no artificial limits on the number of animals or recipes.

Why they work offline

Because that is where they are used. A barn, a shed, a pen, a field — places where mobile coverage is a matter of luck. An app that needs a connection to open an animal card is useless exactly when you need it.

There is a second reason. Data kept on your own phone belongs to you. There is no service that can close down, change its terms or lose your records along with its servers. The price of that approach is that syncing between devices is not available yet — for now, data is transferred by export and import.

How the apps are built

Slowly and with attention to the subject matter. Before writing a feature, it is worth understanding how the job is actually done: what a breeder records, which dates matter, what has to be calculated and when. Guessing produces apps that look plausible and are useless in practice.

Every app goes through code review before publication, and updates are driven by what users write in. Requests of the "it would be good if it also did X" kind are read first.

What exists today

There are 7 apps: 4 already published and the rest being prepared for release. All of them are on the apps page.

Getting in touch

Two addresses, deliberately kept separate. A broken app needs an answer today, an idea can wait:

There are no forms on this site, and it deliberately collects nothing about its visitors — the details are in the site policy.
